South Carolina was up 17-0 on Kentucky. Seventeen-nothing, at home. Then it was 34-34 late, and in overtime Kentucky scored and went for two and got it. 35-34.
That’s four straight losses for Shane Beamer. The Gamecocks are 0-3 in the SEC, and he’s now the guy to beat on this board.
Locksley had a bad Saturday too. Norvell, for once, didn’t.

Beamer’s out front
I don’t know how you sugarcoat blowing a 17-point lead at home. South Carolina is 2-3 and hasn’t won a conference game. No. 8 Florida is next.
The buyout is reportedly around $22.5 million, and that’s about the only thing slowing this down. But four losses in a row is a lot of noise for an AD to ignore.
Locksley’s right behind
Maryland led by nine in Lincoln and then just came apart. Malik Washington threw a few picks, including a pick-six. The offense put up 93 yards in the second quarter and 19 in the third. Nineteen.
Three straight losses, counting the 54-3 UCLA game, and the Terps are 2-3. Ohio State is next, which isn’t a great sign. His buyout is reportedly near $10 million, a much easier check to write than Beamer’s.
Norvell gets a breather
Florida State beat Virginia 38-7 and is 3-2. His number actually got longer, +200 to +400, and he’ll take that.
Doesn’t fix anything, though. Louisville and Miami are still coming, and that $46.7 million buyout keeps being the reason people think FSU will wait. Still, nobody’s talking about him this morning, which is a win in itself.
Belichick’s the same
UNC lost 37-26 to Notre Dame. They led 7-0, then the Irish ran off 21 straight. Jaden Jefferson’s 98-yard kickoff return made it 21-20 in the third, but Notre Dame pulled away and outgained the Heels 475-285.
Belichick’s take: “We just weren’t able to make enough plays.” Nothing out there on his job, and losing to a top-three team isn’t a shock. So he stays at +450.
O’Brien’s moving up
Boston College outgained SMU 322-218 and still lost. Eleven penalties for 95 yards will do that. The Eagles are 2-3 and 0-2 in the ACC.
No one’s reporting on his seat yet, but he’s gone from a long shot to someone worth watching. BC has a bye, then unbeaten Pittsburgh on Oct. 17.
Everybody else
Kansas shut out Middle Tennessee 55-0. Baylor went to Arizona State and won 55-19. Wisconsin beat Michigan State 31-3 and is 4-1. Leipold, Aranda and Fickell all drop, and they should.
Also, Colorado State fired defensive coordinator Tyson Summers during Saturday’s loss to Oregon State. That’s an assistant, so it doesn’t count here. But yeah, some of these ADs are twitchy.
