That arrangement has made the tribe the single largest gambling donor in the race, contributing roughly $9 million overall, including $4 million directly to Donalds&#8217; campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Companies shut out of Florida&#8217;s sports betting market by that same compact have also opened their wallets. FanDuel gave $581,000 through July, almost all to Donalds. DraftKings&#8217; parent company DK Crown Holdings contributed $525,000, largely to the same candidate, while Caesars Entertainment gave $245,000 and the Sports Betting Alliance, the trade group representing the major national operators, contributed $250,000, entirely to Donalds. Fantasy sports companies PrizePicks and Underdog, both of which also offer prediction market products in the state, gave nearly $400,000 and over $280,000 respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Kalshi Connection<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kalshi itself donated $268,000 across multiple contributions, including $75,000 directly to Donalds, and Robinhood gave $200,000, all to the same candidate. But the far larger sum came from Yass personally: $7.5 million directly to Donalds&#8217; campaign and another $3.5 million to a political committee that later supported him, according to the state&#8217;s campaign finance database. Yass&#8217;s firm, Susquehanna, is a co-owner alongside Robinhood of Rothera, a CFTC-designated contract market, and also operates as a market maker across multiple prediction market exchanges, giving him a direct financial stake in how friendly Florida&#8217;s next governor turns out to be toward the sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Neither Florida&#8217;s outgoing administration nor Donalds&#8217; campaign has said how he&#8217;d approach prediction markets specifically if elected, and the donations don&#8217;t establish any policy commitment. But the state has so far avoided the legal fights playing out elsewhere: more than a dozen states have sued Kalshi or Polymarket over whether their sports contracts amount to unlicensed gambling, and the CFTC has invoked rarely used emergency powers just this week to keep Kalshi operating in New York despite that state&#8217;s own lawsuit. Florida staying on the sidelines of that fight makes its next governor&#8217;s posture toward the industry more consequential, not less.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Race Itself Is Tighter Than It Looks<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Donalds has been widely described as the frontrunner in a state that&#8217;s trended solidly Republican for a decade, and gambling industry money is clearly betting on that outcome. But recent independent polling tells a more complicated story than &#8220;prohibitive favorite&#8221; suggests. A University of North Florida poll from mid-July had Donalds leading Democrat David Jolly by just 5 points, 46% to 41%, and an earlier Change Research survey in June actually showed Jolly ahead, 47% to 42%. Florida Democrats haven&#8217;t won a statewide election since 2018, but several pollsters have flagged this race as more competitive than the state&#8217;s recent electoral history would suggest, whichever way the donations are pointing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Trump Ties Run Through the Industry<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Donalds has campaigned as an ally of President Trump, who endorsed his run, and Trump&#8217;s own family has direct ties to prediction markets: Donald Trump Jr. serves as a paid adviser to Kalshi and holds an investment in Polymarket.
