Josh Sweat wanted out of Arizona before the season even started. The Cardinals told him no.
Fast forward eight games. Arizona’s 3-5, sitting last in the NFC West, and Sweat still hasn’t changed his mind. Plenty of contenders could use a guy who can get to the quarterback, and the deadline hits Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 4 p.m. ET.

Why Is Sweat on the Block?
Honestly, this has been building since the spring.
Sweat signed with Arizona in March 2025 (four years, $76.4 million) mostly because Jonathan Gannon was there. Gannon got fired. Sweat reportedly asked for a trade not long after, and he’d like a new deal too.
Arizona didn’t budge. GM Monti Ossenfort said in camp they had zero interest in moving him, and they meant it at the time.
Things look a lot different at 3-5, though. The Cards just benched Jacoby Brissett for Gardner Minshew, they’re clearly building toward something down the road, and a 29-year-old pass rusher isn’t really part of that.
Jordan Schultz reported this week that Sweat would be happy to get moved before the deadline.
Why He Might Stay
We’ve still got staying as the favorite, and it’s not that close.
That same Schultz report said Arizona’s given off the vibe that they’re fine hanging onto him, and the asking price is supposedly high. They didn’t trade him in the summer when he asked. Nothing says they have to now.
Also, who’s rushing the passer if he leaves? He’s their best edge guy and the depth behind him is thin.
What Will It Cost?
A lot more than a rental would.
Whoever gets him isn’t just getting him for half a season. He’s signed through 2028.
This year’s money is easy, since only what’s left of his 2026 salary comes along. Next year and the year after are a different story, with cap hits over $23 million both seasons.
Early on, people were talking a Day 2 pick at minimum. That number probably isn’t going down. Maxx Crosby’s staying in Vegas and the Chargers say Khalil Mack isn’t going anywhere, so Sweat might be the best edge rusher you can actually get. Another Colts-driven name worth pricing is Jonathan Taylor.
Is He Still Good?
Yeah, for the most part.
Last year he had 12 sacks, a career high, on a team that went 3-14. He’s had six or more sacks six seasons in a row.
2026 got off to a slow start. He’s at three sacks, and every one of them came in the last five games, so he’s heating up right when teams are shopping.
Dallas Cowboys, +250
Everybody’s first guess, and for good reason.
Adam Schefter flagged Dallas as the team to watch, and the Cowboys saw Sweat up close on Sunday. Arizona won 33-30 in OT and Sweat had a hand in finishing it off.
That defense needs help. Crosby’s off the board, Mack apparently is too, so Sweat’s the natural next call. And Jerry Jones loves a splash.
Picks are the issue. Dallas already shipped a 2028 second to Pittsburgh back in October and has only four 2027 picks left (a first, a second, a fourth and a seventh). If Arizona wants real value, that first might have to be in play.
Then again, they’re 3-5 too. Hard to call them buyers.
Chicago Bears, +500
Chicago’s not messing around this year.
They already sent two first-rounders to Tennessee for Jeffery Simmons, and Ian Rapoport says they’re still poking around on edge rushers. Jeremy Fowler listed them as a possible Sweat team too.
At 6-2, nobody on this list has a better reason to buy. We just wonder how much they’ve got left to spend after the Simmons trade.
Green Bay Packers, +700
Our favorite storyline of the bunch.
Gannon’s running the defense in Green Bay now. He coached Sweat in Philly, and he’s basically why Sweat signed in Arizona.
The Packers were connected to him over the summer too. Cap space makes it tricky, but you can see it.
San Francisco 49ers, +900
The Niners are buying. They already got DeForest Buckner from the Colts.
Fowler mentioned San Francisco as a fit for Sweat too. We’re just guessing they’ve used up a good part of their deadline budget already.
Buffalo Bills, +1200
Buffalo keeps getting named as a team that should go get an edge rusher, and Sweat’s name comes up in those conversations.
No real reporting tying them together yet, though, so they’re long.
New England Patriots, +2000
They’ve shown up on a couple landing-spot lists. Not much more than that.
When Will We Know?
By 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday.
Arizona plays once more before then. Another loss and the pressure to sell ramps up. If Dallas keeps losing, it might just sit this one out.
Bottom line, there’s a market for him. Elsewhere on the board, check where Josh Downs could land. But Arizona doesn’t need to move him, so somebody’s going to have to pay up.
