These odds are just my own guesses after Week 7, not real sportsbook lines. Every QB is his own market, so the percentages don’t have to add up to 100%.
Kirk Cousins, Raiders (+125)
Vegas lost again, 35-21 to the Rams, and that’s four in a row. Cousins threw two touchdowns but they were already down 28-6 at the half.
Kubiak says he’s open to changes, and all the talk is about rookie Fernando Mendoza. Nothing’s been announced. Cousins basically said if he’s not the best option, he doesn’t want to be out there either.
He’s got the shortest odds for a reason. If the Raiders go to Mendoza, this one pays off fast.
Jacoby Brissett, Cardinals (+400)
Arizona lost 30-16 to Denver and they’re 2-5. Brissett was 27 of 48 for 272 yards and one touchdown.
The coach says he’s still the starter. But nobody’s calling him the long-term answer, and 2-5 gets old fast.
Malik Willis, Dolphins (+800)
Willis finally got a win. Miami beat the Jets 28-25 for its first victory, and he went 14 of 21 for 208 yards and two touchdowns. He ran one in too.
That’s easily his best game, and it takes some heat off Hafley. They’re 1-5 though, so I wouldn’t call it safe.
Tyler Shough, Saints (+1000)
Saints lost 16-10 to the Steelers and they’re 2-5, with four losses in their last five. Shough was 30 of 38 for 278 yards, but he threw a red-zone pick and missed a wide-open Chris Olave down there.
Lots of yards, ten points. That’s not all on him, but it’s going to land on somebody.
Bryce Young, Panthers (+2000)
Rough one. Carolina got blown out 43-13 by Tampa Bay, and Young threw two picks, lost a fumble that Tampa ran back for a touchdown, and got sacked five times.
Right tackle Taylor Moton broke his fibula, so the line is a mess. Carolina’s 3-3 and nobody’s talking about a change yet.
Deshaun Watson, Browns (+2500)
The Browns beat Tennessee 27-24 on a field goal with three seconds left, and they’re 5-2. Watson threw for 308 yards and a pick, and ran one in himself.
The pick helped Tennessee jump out to 14-0 early. He fixed it, so nobody’s pushing for a change.
Geno Smith, Jets (+3000)
Geno was good, the Jets just lost anyway. 28-25 to Miami, and he threw for 287 yards and three touchdowns with a pick. That’s two games in a row with an interception.
Losing to a team that was winless a week ago is rough, and the Jets are 2-5. It’s not on Geno, but that doesn’t always matter.
Kyler Murray, Vikings (+4000)
Vikings are 6-0 after beating the Colts 16-10. Murray only threw for 150 yards and a touchdown, but he ran for 39 more.
He’s winning games, so nobody cares about the numbers.
Michael Penix Jr., Falcons (+5000)
Penix had his best game. Atlanta beat San Francisco 29-20, and he threw three touchdowns with no turnovers and no sacks.
The Falcons are 3-4 and he’s played way better since he got the job back in Week 3.
So Where’s This Headed
Cousins is my pick now. Four straight losses, a coach who’s open to changes and a No. 1 pick sitting behind him is about as clear as it gets. Brissett’s next, and I’d keep an eye on Shough and Young too. Willis got a win, so I backed off him. Watson, Geno, Murray and Penix look fine.
Winston’s already out, so that’s the first one down. Cam Ward isn’t on the board, but the Titans are 1-6, so I’m keeping an eye on that too.
